Andrea Arnold has been teaching on and off for almost 30 years in classroom and camp settings and for the last seven years in middle school classrooms on Kaua'i.
She specializes in ELA and Art Education but is skilled in all middle school subjects. She absolutely loves this unique age group and merges social justice, personal responsibility and just plain good human behavior into every class. Class is dynamic, topical, child-led and fun.
AJ's class is academic and standards-based, but in a smaller, less formal, setting that embodies nature, art and human nature.
AJ’s education in the early nineties includes a BFA & BS in psychology and post-graduate work in Art Therapy from Buffalo State University, formally known as State Teachers College.
I am beyond excited to join the A Kula community. I have spent the last six years teaching math and social studies at the Washington Jesuit Academy, a middle school in Washington D.C. I have recently relocated to the island of Kaua'i and am looking forward to learning more about the island through the students at A Kula.
My goal as an educator is to instill a love for learning in students and have them view education as a lifelong endeavor. Classes have a strong emphasis on critical thinking and problem-solving skills that challenge students to push themselves outside their comfort zones and explore new ideas and concepts. I find it important to tap into the natural curiosity of a child's mind and let their creative minds direct them down their educational paths.
